What is the Beginner Level?
We are thrilled to introduce a brand-new level for Beginners (14 years and older), specially created to inspire and encourage youth and adults who are just starting their journey with the word of Allah (SWT)!
This level is reserved exclusively for those who are new to memorization or recitation. It’s designed to offer a supportive and fair environment to help participants build confidence and build foundational skills.

Nouraniyyah Lessons
Recitation levels for ages 5 and under, and 6 – 7 years old are based on lessons from the book: Al Qaidah Al Nouraniyyah.

Evaluation Criteria
Our evaluations are conducted by a panel of highly experienced judges to ensure fairness and accuracy, based on the following criteria:
Proficient reading of the Surah/Surahs of their respective level. Marks can be deducted for mispronunciation or simply stopping in the middle of reading even if the judges do not interfere.
Correctly following the rules Tajweed throughout their recitation. This includes saying the Isti’athah and Basmalah in the beginning of the surah or their recitation.
Good performance and sound when reciting. Participants’ recitation should be smooth and marks will be awarded for a good performance.

- All Participants must meet the registration criteria (Link to page 05 – Rules and Guidelines).
- Participants who wish to register in the new level: Beginners 14+ must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be 14 years or older.
- Be at a beginners’ level in reading the Qur’an. Participants who are at a higher level are welcome to join their age’s level. They may be disqualified if they register at this level.
- Examination:
- Participants must read directly from the Qur’an book/Mus-haf.
- Participants are NOT required to memorize the Surah/Surahs of their level.

Am I allowed to look in the Quran book/Mus-haf during the exam?
Yes! The recitation category test the participants’ ability to read the Surah well. Participants will be evaluated on their ability to read well with Tajweed and a good performance.
What are the examination criteria for the recitation competition?
Participants will be assessed based on good, continuous reading, Tajweed and performance. Read more on the evaluation criteria above
Will I have to read the whole Surah?
No. Our judges will be asking participants to read some sections of the Surah(s). Participants are still expected to be proficient in reading the entire Surah(s) of the level they register in.
How will my child who is registered in the Nouraniyyah levels be tested?
Participants will be shown specific letters or letter combinations and asked to pronounce them. Participants will be evaluated on the correct pronunciation of the letter and its condition (ex: Harakah, Sokun, Shaddah, etc.)
Can my child (13 years old or younger) register for the Beginners Level?
No. The Beginners level is only for adults and teenagers older than 14 years, who are at a beginners’ level of reading.
