Rules and Guidelines

Before registering, all participants must carefully read and familiarize themselves with the competition’s rules and guidelines BEFORE they register.

These guidelines outline important information about eligibility, project submission requirements, evaluation criteria, and other essential details for a smooth and fair competition experience.

Please ensure you understand all rules thoroughly to ensure your participation meets the necessary standards.

Registration Category Rules & Guidelines
  1. Registration and Fees
    1. Online registration starts on January 6, 2025
    2. Online registration deadline is April 19, 2025 at 11:59 pm
    3. The competition online registration fee is $25 per participant per category
      1. Fees are subject to a $5 early bird’s discount until Mar 16, 2025
    4. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable
    5. No siblings’ discount will be provided
  2. Participants’ Registration Criteria
    1. Participants must have one of the following:
      1. Canadian citizenship
      2. Canadian permanent resident status
      3. Canadian refugee status
      4. Canadian work permit
    2. Participants can register in more than one category (Memorization, Recitation, and Contemplation)
    3. Participants cannot participate in more than one level in each category
    4. All participants (except Hoffaz/Hafizs) can register only in their age level or higher within each category
    5. Quran memorizers (Hoffaz/Hafizs) are only allowed to participate in the following categories:
      1. Memorization Category: Hoffaz level only
      2. Recitation Category: Quraa’ level only
      3. Hadeeth Category: Their age level or higher
      4. Contemplation Category: Their age level or higher
    6. Full-time Quran teachers and Imams are not allowed to participate in the competition
  1. All exams will be done online on Zoom.
  2. Each participant will choose a timeslot on a platform that will be communicated by email. Participants cannot examine in a different time slot unless directed by our administration.
    1. All time slots are communicated in Eastern Standard Time zone (EST).
  3. All participants are required to turn on their camera and share their screen during their examination.
  4. No one is allowed to be with the participant in the same room during the examination.
  5. All examinations will be recorded for quality and promotional purposes.
    1. Ayaat Foundation reserves the right to publish all recorded videos of the examination and final projects of the contemplation category.
  6. Judges are not allowed to examine their relatives or any students they teach regularly.
    1. Any participant that scores below 65% will be automatically disqualified.
    2. The results of the competition are final and non-negotiable.
    3. If a participant wins in more than one category, he/she will receive only the highest in all prizes (ONE prize).

 

  1. Registration:
    1. All Participants must meet the registration criteria.
    2. Participants who wish to register in the new level: Beginners 14+ must meet all of the following conditions:
      1. Be 14 years or older.
      2. Be at a beginners’ level in reading the Qur’an. Participants who are at a higher level are welcome to join their age’s level. They may be disqualified if they register at this level.
  2. Examination:
    1. Participants must read directly from the Qur’an book/Mus-haf.
    2. Participants are NOT required to memorize the Surah/Surahs of their level.
    3. Examinations are subject to Examination and Results Guidelines.
  3. Evaluation Criteria
    1. Proficient reading of the Surah/Surahs of their respective level. Marks can be deducted for mispronunciation or simply stopping in the middle of reading even if the judges do not interfere.
    2. Correctly following the rules of Tajweed throughout their recitation. This includes saying the Isti’athah and Basmalah at the beginning of the surah or their recitation.
    3. Good performance and sound when reciting. Participants’ recitation should be smooth, and marks will be awarded for a good performance.
  1. Registration:
    1. All Participants must meet the registration criteria.
  2. Examination:
    1. Participants are required to memorize the FULL Surah/Surahs of their level. Any participant that does not will be disqualified.
    2. All Participants will be required to read without looking in the Quran book/Mus-haf.
    3. Examinations are subject to Examination and Results Guidelines.
  3. Evaluation Criteria
    1. Proficient memorization of the Surah/Surahs of their respective level. Marks can be deducted for mispronunciation or simply stopping in the middle of reading even if the judges do not interfere.
    2. Correctly following the rules of Tajweed throughout their recitation. This includes saying the Isti’athah and Basmalah at the beginning of the surah or their recitation.
    3. Good performance and sound when reciting. Participants’ recitation should be smooth, and marks will be awarded for a good performance.
  1. Registration:
    1. All Participants must meet the registration criteria.
  2. Examination:
    1. Participants are required to memorize Hadeeths, summaries, and commentaries from the booklet provided above.
    2. The number of Hadeeths required to memorize depends on the level:
      1. Level 1: 5 out of 10 Hadeeths
      2. Level 2: 7 out of 14 Hadeeths
      3. Level 3: 8 out of 16 Hadeeths
    3. Participants cannot read from any book or paper during the examination.
    4. Examinations are subject to Examination and Results Guidelines.
  3. Evaluation Criteria
    1. Correct memorization of the Arabic text of the Hadeeths, including the Harakat (Vowels). Memorization of its translation only will not be accepted.
    2. Memorization of the commentary and summary of the Hadeeth in either language: Arabic or English.
    3. Bonus points: Memorization of the Sanad (sahabah) and Rawis (narrators) is not required but will count as bonus points.

Rawi: Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim

  1. Registration:
    1. All Participants must meet the registration criteria.
  2. Project Guidelines:
    1. Your project should reflect one element in the topic of your age group level.
      Example: If your topic is Miracles in the Quran, you may choose to answer the question: “Why is the Quran a miracle?”
    2. Your project must include at least 3 examples from the Quran.
    3. How you present your project is up to you. Some examples could be a poster, infographic, PowerPoint/Google Slides, research paper, video, animations, and much more.
      1. If you are making a video, it must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
      2. If you are making PowerPoint/Google Slides, it must have a maximum of 15 slides.
      3. If you are writing a research paper, it must have a minimum of 750 words and a maximum of 1000 words.
  3. Submissions:
    1. Submissions are subject to Examination and Results Guidelines.
    2. The name of your submission file should follow this format: “Participant’s Full Name_Hira Canada 2025”.
    3. Your project should be submitted ONCE as ONE FILE on the link provided in the email. Emails will be sent out once examinations start.
    4. Your file must be under 25 MB.
  4. Evaluation Criteria:
    1. Your work will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
      1. Creativity
      2. Presentation
      3. Content (Depth, research, etc.)
      4. Organization
